Setting up a realistic routine

If you prefer visual/audio lessons, watch the video I made here. If you prefer to read the information, it is all laid out for you in the next few lessons.

Creating a learning routine for the long term.

You are starting to learn Spanish and you are so excited--feeling so motivated!

You love the idea of going out to learn for two hours, but as you continue your motivation dwindles, you feel guilty for not staying on top of things, and you put it off longer and longer as you feel you are not doing as much as when you started. This is a completely normal phenomenon and the best way to avoid it is to set yourself up for success. You may feel so excited now, but if muscle memory tells you that studying Spanish means dedicating two hours every day, it will soon become impossible and your brain and body will not want you to continue. If you start with realistic goals, your body and mind will remember that it does not take too much time and you will be more willing to continue with the routine.

What is the best way to start, then?

✏️ Look at your schedule and decide on 2-3 times per week that you can dedicate 30 minutes or more to really dive in to Spanish learning as you go through the curriculum on this course.

📍 Additionally, make sure that you also incorporate 5-15 minutes every day to keep up your Spanish in the day-to-day, but make sure you stick to the time limit.

You will most likely be having so much fun and want to keep going--but it is important for your future Spanish student self to stop at the right time and build small achievable habits in the long term.

Go ahead and set that alarm or timer for yourself and stop when it goes off--even if you are just having so much fun. Tell yourself you can come back and do another timer in an hour or a few hours; in fact, you can even set a second alarm for yourself to return to it in an hour. Building that anticipation can be so much more rewarding in the long run than continuing and overworking your brain.

In the next lesson, you'll see lots of ideas for how to incorporate more Spanish into your life!
